The headquarters of Anglia Translations is located within a Georgian listed building in Huntingdon, some 20 miles west of Cambridge. The A14 and the A1 are close by, giving easy access from the Midlands, East Anglia and the South. By car we are 25 minutes from Cambridge, and 45 minutes from Stansted airport. London King's Cross is 55 minutes away by train.
Anglia Translations was founded in 1989 by Anthony Withers, a graduate linguist, and for many years a
widely-travelled export sales manager.
From the very beginning our objective has been to provide our clients with a wide range of language services which combine the highest quality and the most competitive pricing.
Our current client list encompasses a large number of national and international blue chip companies, not only here in the UK but also overseas. Below you will find examples of the sort of work we do and some of the languages we have been working in recently.
You can send your texts to us in almost any format including Word, Excel,
Powerpoint, Access, MS Publisher, QuarkXpress, Autocad, and many more.
At the beginning of 1999 we entered into a cooperation agreement with Isalink Translations, who are based near
Grenoble. The agreement has allowed us to widen our base in France and has enabled both companies to profit from new opportunities in both countries.
Early in 2000 we extended our European ambitions, working with two well respected companies in the key financial and commercial centres of Milan and Frankfurt. These mutually beneficial partnerships enable us to offer our clients an increasing range of linguistic services (especially translation and interpreting) and also assistance with export marketing.
Anglia Translations belongs to the Association of Translation Companies and the Institute of Translating and Interpreting.
In April 2000 Anthony Withers joined the ITI Council, representing the Corporate Members of that body.

Our translators are not only highly qualified linguists but the vast majority have significant commercial or industrial experience. Most are members of professional organisations such as the ITI or the Institute of Linguists. They translate only into their native language. Normally they will have particular specialisms such as engineering, telecommunications, literature (academic books and fiction), medicine, law, financial reports and so on.
We base our rates on the number of words in the document, the subject matter and the languages involved. Translations are returned by post, email, fax or on diskette.
For languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean and others using a non-Roman alphabet, we can supply your document as a PDF file, ready for printing.
TECHNICAL MANUALS, REPORTS, FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, COMMERCIAL CORRESPONDENCE, CONTRACTS, BOOKS, MAGAZINES, PACKAGING AND PRINTING, FILLING MACHINES, TELECOMMUNICATIONS, WATER MANAGEMENT, FINANCIAL REPORTS, MEDICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL, WEBSITES, LEGAL, BROCHURES
As you would expect, our portfolio includes all the major world languages, and every month we add more. Here are just a few of the languages we have been working with on recent assignments:

Finding quality translators, with the right blend of skill and experience, is not easy. Appraising their work, monitoring their performance, and ensuring they have full support and back-up facilities from us is a time-consuming job, yet it lies at the heart of what we mean by quality.
What do we look for? For us quality means care and attention to detail. A good translation requires the right skills, the right experience, the right attitude, the right commitment, the right enthusiasm, the right attention to detail, the right flair, the right fluency. If just one of these is missing, quality is the first casualty.
We offer three additional services to ensure constant quality every time:
If your text is to be published and made available to a wide audience, it makes sense to have the entire document proofread by an experienced independent linguist who is familiar with the subject matter. All our proofreaders are highly skilled professionals who will ensure that all blemishes and inconsistencies are removed from your document before it reaches publication stage.
Our rate for proofreading is calculated by the hour. A proofreader would normally expect to handle 1000 words per hour.
Nowadays, almost every industry and market sector comes with its own special vocabulary, terminology and jargon. It's often difficult, even for the most experienced translator, to find a very specialised term that might only be valid for a particular industry or even for a particular company.
That is why we have introduced our VALIDATION option. Quite simply we liaise with your local agent, client or distributor in the overseas market to make sure we get the right word every time. Any suggested amendments are then incorporated directly into your text.
For every client we build up a personalised glossary incorporating all the special words, terms and jargon, using translation memory software such as TRADOS. This ensures consistency over time.
We pride ourselves on delivering on time and to budget. Let us know at the outset what your timescale is: we like the challenge of meeting (or beating!) the most demanding delivery dates.
As a rule of thumb, the typical translator can handle around 2000 words per day.
Very frequently you need a rapid "same-day" translation of short texts such as letters, faxes and emails. With our "SAME DAY" service, texts of up to 1000 words, received by 10am, will be returned to you by 5pm. This service is available in most European languages.
Increasingly, our clients expect us to handle major publishing projects, from the initial translation through to final production of the book, manual or brochure. We are fully equipped with the leading publishing software such as QuarkXpress, Illustrator, Adobe, Photoshop etc. (Mac platform).
Send us your original electronic file and we will translate, proofread, typeset , provide film or bromide for you to print directly.
You may require an interpreter to handle various situations:
|
a business meeting |
 |
a client presentation |
 |
a new product launch |
 |
a factory visit |
 |
an exhibition |
There are two principal types of interpreting:
Consecutive
The interpreter translates once the speaker has finished speaking, and then translates the reply. Consecutive interpreting is ideal for those informal business situations such as meetings and factory visits.
Simultaneous
Made familiar to us in footage from the United Nations or the European Parliament, simultaneous interpreting calls for a very high degree of linguistic virtuosity. We provide not only the interpreters, but all the specialised sound equipment (booths, microphones, headphones, amplifiers etc). The basic principle is that the interpreter translates the speaker's words as they are speaking, and the audience listens to the interpreter as they translate.
We can also provide a complete transcript of the whole proceedings once the conference is over.
Consult us at the planning stage. We can ALWAYS offer the best advice, and very often we can save you money.
Assignments overseas? With our partners in Milan, Paris and Frankfurt, we can easily and quickly assemble a local team of experienced interpreters, thus avoiding expensive airfares and accommodation bills.
